Health promotion activities generate multiple co-benefits beyond health and wellbeing. Some additional advantages include strengthening democracy through co-creation processes that improve local health governance. By empowering citizens with knowledge and shared decision-making power, these initiatives foster healthier living environments from a bottom-up perspective, reinforcing participation, democratic principles, a sense of belonging, and social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tackling NCDs is a challenging and complex task. JA PreventNCD uses a community action for health methodology that engages communities, and the different actors involved to work hand in hand toward a common solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This webinar aimed to explore how the intersectoral and participatory process itself has the potential to improve people's capacities and knowledge to reach agreements and contribute to solving complex health problems, addressing the determinants of health to achieve a healthier and more democratic society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are delighted that over 300 participants joined us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ilona Kickbusch<\/strong>, Professor, Founding Director of the Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva pointed out, \"Health is created in everyday life \u2013 as is democracy. Both health and democracy are verbs \u2013 they need to be actively practiced. But both require supportive environments to thrive.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jennie Popay<\/strong>, Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the Centre for Health Inequalities, Lancaster University and the Liverpool and Lancaster Universities Collaboration for Public Health Research said, \u201eGiving communities of place and interest real influence in designing and implementing solutions to the complex challenges presented by NCDs will undoubtedly contribute to democratic renewal. However, without careful planning these approaches risk being regressive with those groups\/communities bearing the brunt of growing socialand health inequalities benefiting least if at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caroline Costongs<\/strong>, Director of EuroHealthNet, the European Partnerships for Health, Equity and Wellbeing highlighted that \u201ePeople are increasingly empowered to stand up for their rights, urging authorities and businesses to prioritize public health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
