On September 24–26, a meeting was held in Copenhagen as a part of Task 5.4 of the Joint Action PreventNCD project.
During the visit, participants were able to see how public food procurement is connected with other nutrition initiatives implemented in the city of Copenhagen.
The meeting agenda included, among others:
- A cooking workshop led by Meyers Madhus titled “Legumes in Everyday Cooking”, along with a presentation of Meyers’ collaboration with the City of Copenhagen.
- A visit to the central distribution kitchen EAT, including a presentation and guided tour of the facility.
- A visit to the Food School “Skolen på Islands Brygge”, featuring a presentation, school and kitchen tour.
- A visit to the kitchen of the Sølund care home, including a presentation and guided tour of the facility.
- A workshop titled “Networks for Public Food Procurement in the EU”, during which the new JRC report was discussed, along with success criteria for such networks and ways to measure them.
The meeting also included a summary of the activities to date and the status of national networks operating within the project, highlighting their achievements and the need for further support. Particular attention was given to reducing the carbon footprint, and participants had the opportunity to explore a database of over a thousand environmentally friendly recipes.
The importance of networking was strongly emphasized during the event – both among project partners and in the broader European context. Experience sharing, relationship building, and mutual support were recognized as key elements for further development and effective implementation of actions in the field of public food procurement.
The Medical University of Silesia was represented at the meeting by Anna Lempart-Rapacewicz, PhD and Sandra Nandzik, MSc.
The meeting was a great opportunity to exchange knowledge, discover best practices, and take a closer look at the solutions being implemented in Copenhagen. It proved to be highly inspiring—bringing forward many ideas and examples that could be applied in Poland.
The entire event took place in an atmosphere of positive energy, reaffirming the vital importance of international collaboration, experience sharing, and the development of professional networks.
